How this calculator works
For a standard US order, Etsy fees are the $0.20 listing or auto-renew charge, 6.5% transaction fee, and Etsy Payments processing at 3% plus $0.25. An attributed Offsite Ads order adds either 15% or 12%, capped at $100.
- Discounted item revenue = selling price − seller-funded discount.
- Transaction fee = 6.5% × (discounted item revenue + buyer-paid shipping). US buyer sales tax is excluded.
- Etsy Payments fee = 3% × (discounted item revenue + buyer-paid shipping + buyer sales tax) + $0.25.
- Listing fee = $0.20 once for this single-item estimate. If the order is attributed to Offsite Ads, add 15% for a shop below $10,000 in qualifying sales or 12% after that threshold, with a $100 maximum.
- Net profit = seller revenue − marketplace fees − item cost − actual shipping − packaging − ads − other seller costs.
Worked example
Example: a $50 item with $5 buyer shipping
Assume a $50 item, $5 shipping charged to the buyer, $4 buyer sales tax, $20 item cost, $5 actual shipping expense, no discount, and no Offsite Ads attribution.
- Seller revenue is $55.00; the buyer-facing gross order is $59.00.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% × $55.00 = $3.58 after cent rounding.
- Payment processing: 3% × $59.00 + $0.25 = $2.02. Add the $0.20 listing fee.
- Total Etsy fees are $5.80 and estimated payout is $49.20.
After the $20 item cost and $5 shipping expense, estimated net profit is $24.20. An attributed Offsite Ads order would materially reduce that result, so it must be selected explicitly.
Important exceptions
- Offsite Ads applies only when Etsy attributes the order to an offsite ad. Shop sales during the prior 365 days determine whether the rate is 15% or 12%.
- This single-item model includes one listing or quantity auto-renew fee. Multi-quantity orders can create additional renewal charges.
- Currency conversion, Etsy Ads budgets, regulatory operating fees outside the US, Pattern, optional services, refunds, and taxes on seller fees are not automatic defaults.
- Payment-processing rates depend on the seller bank-account country. The default here is the published US Etsy Payments rate.
Assumptions used
- The seller is in the United States, lists in USD, and uses Etsy Payments.
- Selling price means the item price before the seller-funded discount entered in the form.
- Buyer tax is not seller revenue, although Etsy Payments processing uses it in the fee basis.
- Optional seller costs are charged to profit, not silently treated as Etsy fees or payout deductions.

Does the Etsy transaction fee include sales tax?
For US orders, the transaction-fee basis excludes buyer sales tax. Etsy Payments processing uses the gross order amount, which can include tax.
Should I select an Etsy Offsite Ads fee for every order?
No. Select an Offsite Ads option only when Etsy attributes that order to an offsite ad. The applicable rate depends on the shop's qualifying 365-day sales.
Why does this calculator include a $0.20 listing fee?
Etsy charges $0.20 to publish a listing and can charge another $0.20 when an additional quantity auto-renews. This one-item estimate includes the charge once.
Is Etsy payout the same as Etsy profit?
No. Payout is seller revenue after fees deducted from proceeds. Profit also subtracts item cost, shipping expense, packaging, advertising, and other seller costs.
