How this calculator works
The shared price and seller costs are passed unchanged to each marketplace engine. Each engine then applies its own verified default category, tax treatment, shipping treatment, fixed fees, and required Amazon FBA input.
- Create one shared product scenario: selling price, item cost, buyer shipping, actual shipping, tax, discounts, and seller costs.
- Use the default comparison plans disclosed below the table, including a required product-specific Amazon base FBA fee.
- Calculate marketplace fees independently using each platform's fee basis; never average rates across platforms.
- Rank the results by net profit while also displaying fees, payout, margin, and effective fee percentage.
Worked example
Example: the same $75 product on six platforms
Assume a $75 item, $5 buyer shipping, $6 buyer tax, $20 item cost, $7 actual shipping expense, no advertising or affiliate commission, and a $6.25 base Amazon FBA fulfillment fee.
- Depop's default current US listing estimates $3.29 in fees and $49.71 profit.
- TikTok Shop standard estimates $4.50 in referral fees and $48.50 profit; Etsy standard without Offsite Ads estimates $8.23 in fees and $44.77 profit.
- eBay most categories estimates $12.10 in fees and $40.90 profit; Whatnot other categories estimates $8.79 in fees and $39.21 profit because buyer shipping is not item revenue.
- Amazon Home & Kitchen with the entered FBA charge estimates $18.47 in fees and $34.53 profit.
These figures compare fee mechanics, not marketplace demand. Category, boosting, advertising, conversion, returns, and fulfillment choices can reverse the order, so open the relevant marketplace calculator before acting.
Important exceptions
- The table uses disclosed representative categories, not a claim that every product fits those categories.
- Etsy Offsite Ads and Depop boosting are off by default; creator commissions and advertising remain user inputs.
- Amazon requires a product-specific FBA fulfillment fee. Storage, inbound, returns, and other variable FBA costs are not guessed.
- Whatnot buyer shipping is treated differently from seller-retained shipping on other platforms, following its official earnings example.
Assumptions used
- Every comparison uses the same entered product price and seller operating costs.
- Default categories are Etsy standard, Amazon Home & Kitchen Professional, eBay most categories without a Store, TikTok standard, Whatnot other, and a current US Depop listing without boosting.
- Buyer tax is excluded from seller revenue on every platform even when a marketplace includes it in a fee basis.
- The comparison estimates unit economics only; it does not score traffic, sell-through, customer acquisition, or return rates.
Sources and verification
Marketplace defaults come from the sources below. We do not use blog summaries as fee authority. User-specific or unverifiable charges stay editable.
Frequently asked questions
Which categories does the comparison use?
It uses Etsy standard, Amazon Home & Kitchen Professional, eBay most categories without a Store, TikTok Shop standard, Whatnot all other categories, and a current eligible US Depop listing without boosting.
Why does Amazon require an extra input?
Amazon's FBA fulfillment fee depends on product dimensions, weight, price, size tier, and services. Entering Amazon's product-specific value is more accurate than guessing.
Does the most profitable row mean I should sell there?
Not by itself. The table compares unit economics under one scenario; demand, conversion, advertising, returns, seller eligibility, and category fit can matter more than the fee difference.
Are my comparison inputs uploaded?
No. The calculations run in the browser. Shared inputs use the URL fragment, which is not included in the HTTP request to the website.
